116th PVI Flag Image from MI Magazine

This photo appeared in the Autumn 2014 issue of Military Images from the cdv collection of Rick Carlile. The captions read “If a Union soldier’s photo album embodied the visual record of his Civil War experience, the album’s heart and soul was the image of the colors under which he and his comrades fought. This selection of distinctive cartes de visite comes from the collection of Rick Carlile. The Keystone State’s contribution to the famed Irish Brigade was the 116th Pennsylvania Infantry. At the Battle of Fredericksburg on Dec. 13, 1862, each man in the brigade reportedly placed a sprig of green in his cap just before the bloody assault on Marye’s Heights.
